Vacation Antiquing

Give me insight into today and you may have the antique and future worlds.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am just getting some of my vacation pictures edited.  I thought I would share a few finds we made at antique shops.  Browsing around them is one of the things my husband and I like to do and road trips are a good time to do it.  We didn't come across very many and some of them were either too small or too expensive to enjoy very much.

The first one we stopped at was Seneca Cannery Antiques in Havre De Grace, Maryland.  It was 20,000 square feet of space to prowl and just what we needed to stretch our legs after being on the road for hours.

They had some lovely quilts and a few tops.  This chair display caught my eye.

A Top and a Quilt

Sunbonnet Sue top was in good shape.

Loved the polka dots and the setting!

A Rack Full of Treasures

Top Rail
This looks like Wagon Wheels.  The sashing is part of the design.  Interesting block.

Wonderful Hand Quilting

I've always loved Basket Quilts

This one was hanging upside down so I turned the photo for you.

Great Blue and White Quilt

I loved this baby blue print. The block was quilted with diagonal lines.
The large sashing was quilted with CIRCLES.  I've never seen that in an old quilt.

This Ohio Star really sparkled.

I saw this cute pillow sham.  It was only $9.00 but I didn't get it.  It has a few age spots and I don't have anywhere to display it.  It was sweet though.

I think it could be graphed from the picture.
It had blue bias tape on the edge of the ruffle.

In Massachusetts we found a little antique shop right outside of the Mass MoCA musuem.
I don't remember the name of it.  But I couldn't leave without this!  The detailing on it is marvelous!  Anyone know what the dragon with the ball on his tongue means?

DRAGON front view

DRAGON back view

I don't know how old he is but he is heavy.  There is a big Chinese/Japanese? symbol on the bottom, should have got a picture of that I guess.  He was a gift to my youngest son who finished college in December.  He just picked up his diploma today since he had no interest in the graduation ceremony.  I thought he would like it since he goes to DRAGONCON every year and is into gaming.  He wants to write/design one and he should since that was his Major.  Guess the apple didn't fall far from the tree since he has a Creative, Sci-Fi and Fantasy loving Mom who has been know to play a few games.  I love ZELDA and TOMB RAIDER!  I haven't played in ages though. :-(  I really should use that Wii sometimes.

I also found this little glass bottle to add to our cobalt glass collection.  It's about 5 inches tall.  I have one that is even smaller.  I'll have to share more of my blue glass with you someday.

Bromoseltzer Bottle
Well that is some of the finds from our trip.  One of the quilt items made it's way home with me.  Want to guess which one?  What games do you like to play?

  2. I was hoping you brought one of those lovelies home. I hope it was the red baskets or one of the blue/white ones. But I am thinking it was the sunbonnet sue...I inherited about 400 sunbonnet sue blocks from my great grandmother. I am still sewing those darn blocks into quilts!
