It's All About Me!

You must constantly ask yourself these questions: Who am I around? What are they doing to me? What have they got me reading? What have they got me saying? Where do they have me going? What do they have me thinking? And most important, what do they have me becoming? Then ask yourself the big question: Is that okay? Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.

It is my turn at last to share with you on the fun blog hop.  Thanks go to Madame of Samm Sew We Quilt for her great leadership and Marlene of Stitchin by the Lake who is the cheerleader for this fun blog hop.  Without the great design from Amy Bradley we would not be having this fun!  Her work is so delightful!

If you are new to my blog I hope you will take a few minutes to look around and get to know me.  You can find out a little more about me in the side bar.  More of my story is in my interview here at the Quilting Gallery.  There are a few FREE patterns I have designed that are available in the previous blog hop posts that are featured in the side bar too.

Without further delay here is my quilt.  I think it turned out cute.  I even managed to match most of the stripes in the border.  No perfectionist tendencies here at all.  LOL

I decided to pillowcase it and skip the binding

I really wasn't going too much for a self portrait

I'm having a giveaway for a pack of THANGLES.  If you would like a chance to win leave a comment about your favorite method for making triangles.

A second chance to win is available to my followers, old or new that leave another comment about how they follow me.

I will soon be hitting the 100 posts milestone and I'm planning another giveaway then.  I also have a really NICE giveaway planned for a little later in the year of an EQ7 program.  It will only be for my followers.  So you can see it could be to your advantage to join me in my quilting adventures this year.

Drawing winner will be announced March 1.

  1. I love that your green stripies almost all line up -- I have tried this in the past with little success. My favorite triangle method os taking the squares and drawing the center line and then stiching on either side to have 2 finished HST when finished. I recently fot a 12 inch 60 degree ruler but haven't taken it out for a spin yet.

  2. Oh my gosh..that is fanatical. I love your groovy gran. My method for triangles is the old... draw a line on the diagonal through the centre of a square.

  3. Love your "you" and the highlights in your hair! I use the Tiger Tape for making my HSTs. Thank you for sharing.

  4. My favorite method of making triangles is....
    ... to avoid them *lol*

Sorry, I never made some before, but they are on my to do list.

    I love your fabric choices.

    Greetings,
    Tina

  5. Love your ME...what great fabrics! Good Job! HST? hmmm...I've tried pretty much every which way...every paper...every ruler (well, probably not Every)...and usually go back to basics marking squares on the diagonal, stitching and cutting.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Great background and I love those glasses! I just draw a line into the square.

    ReplyDelete
  7. She is really cute, thanks for sharing, I am new but quite enjoyed making half square triangles.

  8. I am already a follower through GFC.

  9. Great job matching those stripes!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Beautiful work! I usually just mark my squares on the diagonal, place them right sides together, stitch 1/4 in either side of the line, then rotary cut. Always eager to learn a new technique though :-)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Your work is wonderful with all these stripes. Thanks for sharing

    ReplyDelete
  12. Love how your stripes match up, that must have been hard work! I have only made triangles once and that was just two squares together and mark the diagonal.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Good morning...you did join your stripes and the embellishments is what makes it you, very cute...I also use thangles...have a great day.....

  16. Hi Patricia..you are far pretty than your lady....great stitching...and love those beads for pins..clever

  17. Me too!! That background fabric rocks!

I don't make quilts with triangles...but if I had some Thangles I might try.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks for sharing your mini-quilt. To make triangles, I usually layer 2 squares, draw a line from corner to corner, sew 1/4" away both sides of the line & cut on the line. I also like cutting 2 large squares, layering them, sewing 1/4" around each edge, then cutting corner to corner both ways. The edges are bias, but I spray the fabric before sewing & have no problems.

  24. Great job on your gal! I don't really have a favorite method of creating triangles...I guess I've never slowed down enough to consider how I make them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thangles. That is very interesting. I do the square method and sew 1/4 inch on both sides which works very well. That looks like it would save more time. Thanks for the tip. Thanks for having it as your give away.

  26. I am now a follower and am anxious to see what you will be doing in the future. I post my piece tomorrow and am also having a give away.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Very nice piece....this has been a fun hop....I like using the place the ruler on your strip width and keep flipping down the strip. For hsts; the 1/4 inch ruler is great!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Rosemary B here: Yours is superb! I love the bright perky colors. You can display this proudly. LOVE the quote, but I am a quote collector... this one is very relevant to the day, I think....
Well, I do not know what a thangle is but it sounds like a great measuring tool, I am guessing. I do not own one that is certain.
I make triangles by making a pattern on a plastic sheet, then I measure it a zillion times to make sure it is correct.
Thank you for the give away opportunity, and most of all thank you for sharing your marvelous creation

  29. Following on google friend connect. My fav way for HSTs is thangles or triangles on a roll. I remember having to mark grids on the back of the lighter of the two fabrics to ever want to go back to that, LOL though think of what an innovation THAT idea was at the time!

You may have stuck to the basics (I did too) but the fabrics really make this sing. I can't imagine how you go the stripe in the border to match up so well! The zigzag background fabric must be the bias to the 10th power, LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Love your glasses, great job. Thanks for sharing with us.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The only way I know to make HSTs is to take two squares and to place them face to face. Draw a pencil line from corner to corner on one side of them and then sew along that line. Then I take my ruler and line up the ruler along the 1/4" inch mark along that same line and cut one side off leaving a 1/4" seam. I save those triangles and of course I sew those together with my 1/4" foot and those make a smaller HST square. It is especially nice when I am making MANY HSTs. I can make a little mat to match a project.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have never done a TRi angle.. or THANGLES I am in the hop too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love all the stripes you used. Great lady!!
I normally make HST by sewing on both sides of a diagonal line drawn from corner to corner.

  43. Love your quilt. She is gorgeous. I typically use the tried and true method for HST - ie: 2 squares - R. side together, draw a line down the middle and sew a scant 1/4" on either side. A bit time consuming, but it works for me. Thanks for sharing and for the opportunity on the draw. bonnielarson58@gmail.com

  61. Wow! How did you get those stripes to line up???
I usually put 2 squares together, draw a line across the diagonal and stitch 1/4" from the line. The cut apart on the drawn line!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I like your gal with her sparkly glasses. Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm not sure if this method has a name, but here's what I do. I cut two squares and place them right sides together. I draw a diagonal line on the back of one of the squares, and then sew a seam 1/4" on either side of the drawn line. I cut on the drawn line and I end up with two triangle squares.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Those stripes! Oh my goodness, those green stripes are impressive. I would not have the patience to make them line up like that. Love your lady, too! Good job!

  89. very cute.
im still a newbie and have not yet ventured into triangles.

  90. I became a new follower. For triangles, I usually, take a square and sew the 1/4" on each side of the diagonal and then cut on the diagonal. For a long time, I didn't realize that I needed to square up the new squares. I wasn't taught that and I guess whoever taught me (whether in a class, book, or pattern) thought it was square enough (at least for government work). I'm doing a block of the month through a LQS and one of the clerks is doing a monthly demo of the blocks. She loves the triangles on a roll. A friend and I bought a roll together last month. I haven't tried them yet as I didn't have enough fabric for one of my two blocks. Saturday she reiterated how much she likes using the paper for the triangles, so I guess I'll sure give that a try. She does beautiful work. You are very generous with your giveaway. I hope you continue to do blog hops and inspire us.

  98. I love how your stripes match! It reminds me of my mother who wouldn't buy anything made out of a stripe or plaid that didn't match. Needless to say, we didn't wear many purchased items, but lots of homemade and precisely matched plaids & stripes! LOL! Great job!
I still draw a line and chain piece my HST's down both sides of the line. I recently took part in an HST exchange and used Laundry Basket Quilts HST Paper that was pretty easy.
