You must constantly ask yourself these questions: Who am I around? What are they doing to me? What have they got me reading? What have they got me saying? Where do they have me going? Without further delay here is my quilt. I think it turned out cute. I even managed to match most of the stripes in the border. No perfectionist tendencies here at all. LOL

I love that your green stripies almost all line up -- I have tried this in the past with little success. My favorite triangle method os taking the squares and drawing the center line and then stiching on either side to have 2 finished HST when finished. I recently fot a 12 inch 60 degree ruler but haven't taken it out for a spin yet.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh..that is fanatical. I love your groovy gran. My method for triangles is the old... draw a line on the diagonal through the centre of a square.

ReplyDeleteLove your ME...what great fabrics! Good Job! HST? hmmm...I've tried pretty much every which way...every paper...every ruler (well, probably not Every)...and usually go back to basics marking squares on the diagonal,stitching and cutting.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful work! I usually just mark my squares on the diagonal, place them right sides together, stitch 1/4 in either side of the line, then rotary cut. Always eager to learn a new technique though :-)

Thanks for sharing your mini-quilt. To make triangles, I usually layer 2 squares, draw a line from corner to corner, sew 1/4" away both sides of the line & cut on the line. I also like cutting 2 large squares, layering them, sewing 1/4" around each edge, then cutting corner to corner both ways. The edges are bias, but I spray the fabric before sewing & have no problems.

ReplyDeleteVery nice piece....this has been a fun hop....I like using the place the ruler on your strip width and keep flipping down the strip. For hsts; the 1/4 inch ruler is great!

ReplyDeleteWell, I do not know what a thangle is but it sounds like a great measuring tool, I am guessing. I do not own one that is certain.
I make triangles by making a pattern on a plastic sheet, then I measure it a zillion times to make sure it is correct.

ReplyDeleteFollowing on google friend connect. My fav way for HSTs is thangles or triangles on a roll. I remember having to mark grids on the back of the lighter of the two fabrics to ever want to go back to that, LOL though think of what an innovation THAT idea was at the time!
ReplyDeleteYou may have stuck to the basics (I did too) but the fabrics really make this sing. I can't imagine how you go the stripe in the border to match up so well! The zigzag background fabric must be the bias to the 10th power, LOL.

ReplyDeleteThe only way I know to make HSTs is to take two squares and to place them face to face. Draw a pencil line from corner to corner on one side of them and then sew along that line. Then I take my ruler and line up the ruler along the 1/4" inch mark along that same line and cut one side off leaving a 1/4" seam. I save those triangles and of course I sew those together with my 1/4" foot and those make a smaller HST square. It is especially nice when I am making MANY HSTs. I can make a little mat to match a project.

Love your quilt. She is gorgeous. I typically use the tried and true method for HST - ie: 2 squares - R. side together, draw a line down the middle and sew a scant 1/4" on either side. Love your Biased Babe! I do the 1" larger squares together, draw a line down the middle and sew 1/4" on either side, cut apart and square up to the proper size. I have never tried thangles, but I would love to give them a shot!

A job well done. I like the gold metallic thread you used and the seed beads are a great touch. Great idea to pillowcase it. I love your choice of fabrics. I like your choice of fabrics. I became a new follower. For triangles, I usually, take a square and sew the 1/4" on each side of the diagonal and then cut on the diagonal. For a long time, I didn't realize that I needed to square up the new squares. I wasn't taught that and I guess whoever taught me (whether in a class, book, or pattern) thought it was square enough (at least for government work). I'm doing a block of the month through a LQS and one of the clerks is doing a monthly demo of the blocks. She loves the triangles on a roll. A friend and I bought a roll together last month. I haven't tried them yet as I didn't have enough fabric for one of my two blocks. Saturday she reiterated how much she likes using the paper for the triangles, so I guess I'll sure give that a try. She does beautiful work. You are very generous with your giveaway. I hope you continue to do blog hops and inspire us.

I love how your stripes match! It reminds me of my mother who wouldn't buy anything made out of a stripe or plaid that didn't match. Needless to say, we didn't wear many purchased items, but lots of homemade and precisely matched plaids & stripes! LOL! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI still draw a line and chain piece my HST's down both sides of the line. I recently took part in an HST exchange and used Laundry Basket Quilts HST Paper that was pretty easy.

Hi Patricia, my triangles are made by two pieces of fabric right sides together, line down the centre, sew both sides of the line and cut along the line! Sometimes they turn out really well and sometimes they don't!!!!!! Love your mini quilt and thanks for sharing and the Giveaway. Susie x
